This is quite possibly the most amusing of the set, and from [livejournal.com profile] vox_diabolica.

Relocation
I am always torn between whether I love it or I hate it. I understand that largely my relocations have been for the better (excepting the Sterling Heights relocation...I was not happy there in any way, shape, or form), and they advance who I am and what I want to do. Aside from moving to Michigan with my family when I was 12.5, this is my biggest move right now, and Dan's, too. I see this is a major opportunity for what I want to do with my life, and I've always wanted to live in a real city. Even though I've spent most of my life in smaller towns I never feel more alive than when I'm driving into a bigger city. I like being able to walk everywhere if I want to, and I like the variety of places and things to do. I am certain this is not where I will stay, but I think it's the right next step for both Dan and I, and so I'm embracing it. The apartment thing sucks, though, as those of you on my Facebook are probably getting thoroughly annoyed with ;-) The apartment I have not found yet will be the sixth apartment I'll have lived in in the past two years (and that's not including all the long-term hotel stays).

Beards
I hate beards and facial hair...HATE them--just ask Dan. When he first had to grow one for the Shakespeare Festival I wanted to cry (and laugh...he's German blond hair/blue eyes, but he's also Scottish and his beard grows in red...it's a very amusing dissonance). Every winter after that, until this past one, he always liked growing it out. Now that he has realized how ridiculous it is to have one in his line of work I am ecstatic.

Girls in ties
I'm indifferent, probably because I've actually worked in a restaurant where I've had to wear ties, and I've seen it in so many restaurants that I don't even think twice about it. Dan always got a kick out of my uniform when I worked at that restaurant because suddenly I had to learn how to tie a tie and wear one after he had been forced to wear them throughout his high school years. I don't mind wearing them, and I think when done correctly they can look really cute on girls. I love my Ravenclaw tie, of course, but that's something different entirely--HP house pride because I'm obsessed like that ;-)

Phantom of the Opera
I first heard the soundtrack to the ALW musical the final choir class of my freshman year of high school. Fast forward a little under a year and I became OBSESSED. I learned what the show was and bought the soundtrack. My best friend in high school and I would read phanphic online (I didn't have a computer at that time, so she'd print things out for me to read), and I discovered it was a book, too! I read the Leroux novel and fell even more in love with the story. I tracked down other versions of the story (oh, I adore Susan Kay's, still). I went to see it in Toronto for the first time when I was 16 with a family I babysat for, I watched movies based on the story. I think I love it so much because of a lot of things. I identified with Christine's solitude and loneliness, and there's something about obsessive love that stirs me, especially in this case because he heard potential in her voice and took her under his wing as teacher/student. I liked that their story wasn't perfect, I liked that the characters were all so deeply flawed, and I loved the passion and the intensity and the simultaneous innocence and horror that played so well against each other. I'd always loved the Beauty and the Beast stories, and I'd always loved the Persephone and Hades stories, and this was a wonderful rendering of the same idea. Like every obsessed high school soprano I really wanted to act/sing the role of Christine onstage someday. I know that it would be terribly unlikely to happen now, but that's okay.

Godzilla v. King Kong
I can't answer that because I actually don't know anything about either. I've never seen the movies, I really don't know the stories. Sorry!

Because I want to BUY IT ALL!!!

Only linked because they describe it as first in the series, and I own five that came before it. Ha.

Also why it's a good thing that San Francisco Music Box Co. doesn't exist in malls I frequent...
The ballet!!! I want the rotating music box POTO ballerinas!!!

Awwww...*whimper*

More whimpering...

Another "OMG MUST HAVE NOWWWWWWW!"

*whines* I waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant!

Okay...done.

Well, one more, but not POTO...

What I really really REALLY want for Christmas...only in English.

What was I doing on eBay? Buying Dan's present, of course! >-)

Somebody's doing the newest POTO movie at [livejournal.com profile] icons100: http://take-wing.livejournal.com/1376.html

Anybody see the pattern? First of all, "ha! It really really does look only like a third-degree sunburn!" and secondly...you can barely even tell there's a disfigurement if you're not looking for it...that is, in the ones he's not masked or half his face is cut off >-D

heeee...

This is about the best Wandering Child I've ever seen/heard. Watching the clips the user posted, I really don't care for the Christine's acting/some of her singing, but at certain points it's perfect for the role...like here. Also, I'm still far more smitten with John Cudia's Phantom *swoons*

hehe...

A few pictures from the past week. There will be in-depth photo entries after [livejournal.com profile] yellowest_finch's visit this weekend, as I've been too busy with work and visitors lately to be on my computer much, but here is a preview of what's to come...

[livejournal.com profile] surlenil and me...

More Lindsay and Amanda... )

I also worked a special lunch at work on Tuesday morning/afternoon, and here is a pic of the four of us who worked it. You actually get to see me in work uniform...lol

hehehe...

Like I told Alley--I like the Murr! one she has, but I hate pink beyond just about anything. I'd like the QoW "ME" one if it were solid.

Slowly but surely...

Okay, Christine (and any of the rest of you on my f'list): http://ucoe.wanderingchild.org/erik.html

Any additions or changes you can think of? I suck at writing this stuff. The "Who is Erik" type and title image will be replaced by a "Who is Erik?" title image when I get around to it.

And don't any of you dare leak this to that new community until we get the whole thing up and running, if possible.

I need to go to bed now because I'm working very long hours tomorrow.
littlelotte: (Lindsay mask)
hah! Finally redid this icon for use in my communities :-P Not quite what I wanted, but it works well enough :-)

Now I need to finish tonight's homework. I'm about 3/4 done with it, and so far it's taken me half an hour, so it should only take me ten or so more minutes.

hehehe...I managed to weasel my way into working a double on Thursday. Background: I generally work Thursday evenings. This week is one of the comedy shows, and I was scheduled to work the afternoon, for some odd reason. Kathy called me this morning and left me a message saying she screwed up when she made the schedule and can't serve because her and Phil (she's the general manager and Phil is the owner, but she serves and Phil bartends...which I have huge issues with because the servers and bartenders would love to take over the shifts they work) have to seat people, could I work the comedy show, I'd be first off after it was over and she guesses that she could work my afternoon shift instead. I called her back when I got the message and told her I'd be happy to work the comedy show. When she sounded relieved at that I told her, "I could still work my afternoon shift, too, unless you want to work it for me." She sounded really surprised at that and said, "Yeah...if you really don't mind."

I'm happy :-D Five shifts...yay! This will be a nearly 12-hour double. I haven't done one of those in a very long time, but the 10-hour shift I recently worked wasn't bad, so this shouldn't be too bad, either. I wish I could weasel my way into extra hours like this every week. Just as an aside for Andrea: I guess the comedians we have coming in this week and next week are guys that have done the Bob and Tom show. It should be interesting at the very least.

...and now I must go and return movies. Maybe I'll rent another as well. Tomorrow I need to buy Anna more mealworms, too. I've no more, she's nearly eaten all the ones I put out for her tonight, and she needs to eat more tomorrow, of course!

I'm rather tired, so I'm slightly loopy right now. I apologise for that.

For the record: I am indebted to whomever it was that mentioned watching the POTO DVD in French was far preferable to the English. Unfortunately they matched the voices for the Phantom and Christine far too well with Gerard and Emmy, but Carlotta and various others are much better. Even with the Phantom and Christine you're too distracted by the different language to care too much about the voices. I don't speak French, so I can't be distressed by things like awful Gerard vowels.
littlelotte: (WWED?)
Leave it to movie fan idiots to make me giggle when I'm not in a great mood. I must thank Christine a million times over for creating these icons I'm now using in the communities...lol

Edit: Also, I need to remember that if I get my homework done as soon as I possibly can I can play online without fearing I won't finish said homework.

Edit 2: If I get nothing else out of this class, at least I was introduced to the nonexistant word "entertainmentism." Which reminds me: word made up years ago that I on/off remember and love: "idiocity."

Wow.

So Dan and I rented Phantom last night, and I was horribly depressed by it, and couldn't even bring myself to say how pretty it was by the end. I really wish the video store had the double because there's no way I'll waste my money on buying it, but I really want to see the special features. Halfway through I was wondering "Is it almost done yet?" Dan was getting angry, too, and about all he could muster was "She's pretty," "He's sexy," and "oooh...legs..." when Emmy stepped out of the boat. Like I said, "Yeah she's got nice legs, but look at that lack-of figure." The girl's got no curves, even in a corset!

Oh...other thing that watching this movie makes me think of, but I keep forgetting to mention: Meg (in the movie, not in life...she's not as pretty in real life as she is in the movie) looks a helluva lot like [livejournal.com profile] seamusmcfly. All I can think of when she comes onscreen is, "Damn she looks like Elizabeth!"

We also rented "Ulysses," but I wasn't paying too much attention to it because I don't like seeing movies like that before I read the books.

And now I need to finish my homework :-P

Mainly for [livejournal.com profile] cdaae and [livejournal.com profile] alleykitten, though any other Phantom elitists (and others, I suppose *grins*) are welcome to view, as well ;-) http://ucoe.wanderingchild.org

Alley and I have already been talking. This may very well become the banner img: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v349/alleykitten/titleerik2.gif

How appropriate that the first real entry in this journal is so POTO related...

Anna Livia shed for her first time the other night. It was kinda scary. I've gotten her a warming lamp, and some more crickets. I found a great mealworm dish I should probably get. It has a removable edge that keeps the mealworms from escaping into the vivarium.

Last night really sucked at work. For you servers on my friends list: you know those nightmares where you're the only one working, the restaurant is filled to the brim, you finally get a table out and more people show up to immediately fill it again? That was my night. My actual night...not a dream nightmare, a real actual "I lived it" nightmare. Thank gods I had a competant bartender working with me and we have a pretty small bar (12 seats, but there were probably about 20 people surrounding it last night). He ended up doing 95% of my food running for me, and then bussed a LOT of the tables once they started staying away. If I had more time I'd go into more detail, but it's really not necessary.

And now I must be off to class. Boo class.
