So, since I posted my last entry I have seen two people, one as a comment to somebody on my flist by somebody not even on my flist, use PPS. I take this as a sign that it's perfectly reasonable that the use of multiple s's, rather than multiple p's, is a major pet peeve of mine. Ha.

I was in bed nice and early last night, and now long day ahead today: 9am-3ish admin/key at CiP, 5-? serve on the Tortilla Flats side of the restaurant.

I started and nearly finished A.S. Byatt's collection of short stories, Elementals, yesterday. Love. Lovelovelovelovelove. Especially "Cold." "Crocodile Tears" was quite interesting, too, but "Cold" just shows how amazing her grasp of fairy tale writing is (and is really the only fairy tale like story in the collection, though one more has a few elements of fairy tale in it), and what an amazing storyteller she is in general. The Matisse Stories is next, and I also got The Biographer's Tale, though all I've felt like reading recently are short stories, so The Biographer's Tale may have to wait for another check out while I read V. 1&2 of Arabian Nights instead. Also, I wasn't terribly fond of Tanith Lee's White as Snow It took me about a week and a half to read. Granted, part of that was because I became rather sick, but even before I got sick it was hard to just pick up and continue. I do still want to read Tam Lin because I really am interested in reading a longer version of that tale than the summary of the ballad I read somewhere years ago, I just hope her version of the story is more engaging than this version of Snow White was.

it is perfectly reasonable for PSS to be a pet peve. It is correct as PPS - because it stands for Post Script. An addition to the post script would be a post post script, not a post script script.

PS = Post Script

If you run the ps2pdf command on my Linux box, you can turn that post script file into a PDF (Portable Document Format, I believe).

PS - Do you prefer PS or P.S.? Will you hit me for either one?

What is PSST? I don't really care about the periods. I sometimes use them and sometimes don't.

PSST is, "psst *whispers* are you awake?"

I added the second as an excuse to support your pet peeve. Although, I ought to have used multiple 's's if I were to really nourish the peeve!

it is of course not reasonable to use "pss." It's a Post Script," and then another would be a Post-post script," and so on. Certainly not Post Script and a Post Script Script. Just correct whoever does that, for their sake.

haha i didn't even read your other comments first. i virtually duplicated the first. sort of funny! PS this is sort of a PS in itself!!!! ahhhh brain exploding.

ha...I feel your pain in the "brain exploding" category, though possibly for different reasons.

Isn't Byatt wonderful? I think I remember "Cold" but the main piece I've read by her is Possession which I love, as I am a book junkie English major.

I somewhat like Tanith Lee.

For Tam Lin are you talking about the novel by Pamela Dean? I came to love that book after a second reading of it.

I love Byatt so much. I read Possession about five years ago and just got really into her.

I did mean the Pamela Dean novel, but for some reason I thought of Tanith Lee. I think it's because they're in the same fairy tale series.

I talked with one of my former English teachers after reading the book and she said that Christabel and Ash are probably based on Christina Rossetti and Robert Browning, respectively.
