Sep. 28th, 2007 10:51 pmhmmm...I think I left my camera at Dan's :-( Ah well. I'm in one of the suites for my final stretch of days and wanted to take pics, but it looks like that won't be able to happen.
Dan doesn't read LJ anymore, so I can talk freely about this here >-D His birthday is coming up (October 30th) and one thing we've always wanted to do is try Absinthe, but the real deal hasn't exactly been terribly legal to sell in the US. Luckily for adventurous and experimental drinkers like us, this is changing! In the past little while, the federal government has approved four brands for sale in the US. Of those four, only one (which is made with southern wormwood rather than the grande wormwood traditionally used, which gives it the legal levels of thujone, makes it less bitter, and places it as somewhere between real absinthe and pastis--it's called Absente) is available in Michigan. As I was on my way out of town today, I stopped by my ever-reliable Tiffany's Wine and Spirits and talked to Stuart (who has always been incredibly helpful and wonderful with me) about it. As always, rising up to and then thoroughly crushing my expectations, they actually have that brand in stock. He recently was at the liquor show and they'll be selling gift packages of it with the spoon and a glass starting next month, and he happened to have a website printout of accessories laying right on the desk in front of him. He told me to just email him and let him know about a week before I want to pick it up and he'll have one set aside for me. Given that I'm still in Ohio for another month and a half-ish I'm going to see if I can find anything here. At this rate, it may be cheaper to import something...ha.
So...I know at least one of you on my flist drinks it, so any recommendations or suggestions for me? I'd like to get him a full set of stuff--fountain, glasses (2), and spoons--because I don't do anything halfway.
Okay...it's getting late and I still have stuff in my car to bring up, and I work early in the morning, so I need to get going. Hope you're all having a good night!
