:-P I do it for a pretty specific reason, though ;-) Once upon a time my link color and my text color were the same, and I hate having full addresses hanging around my page if I want them inside a body of text, and you couldn't tell what the links were if you were on my main journal page. It never really occurred to me, for whatever reason, that not everybody was reading my journal through their f'list and own specified colors (for example, I have family members not on LJ who read my journal through the littlelotte.livejournal.com address). The colors are still pretty similar (because I like my text at least mostly uniform color), and I do it to make certain that everybody will catch it regardless of how they have their own colors set up and their visual sensitivity to shade differences.
