Creepy.

Also, I absolutely hate that I now have an obscene amount of wedding ads on my Facebook with my status as "engaged." Evil. Amusing, too, though. I couldn't resist clicking on this particular link: http://weddingsongs.weddingwire.com/weddingsongs/7/firstdancesongs.html I suggest you comment with the most out-of-place song on that list. It's a tough call. You've Got A Friend in Me and Thank You for Being A Friend definitely rank high on my personal "out-of-place" songs, but they're by no means the only ones.

So far as entrance songs go, however, when I very first saw Hannibal in the theater, there was no question from the opera scene on that if I were ever to get married (I wasn't even dating anybody at that particular time) that this Vide cor meum from Dante's La vita nuova would be the song played as I entered. Period.

The opera scene from the movie
The song in its entirety with clips from Hannibal

Oh Dante and Beatrice...the penultimate unrequited love. My journal title is from La vita nuova, actually, for those who never caught it before: In that book which is my memory, on the first page of the chapter that is the day when I first met you, appear the words, "Here begins a new life."

From LifeScript...

General Daily Insight
The Moon is in emotionally responsive Cancer all day, reminding us that home is really where our heart is. But we aren't necessarily lazy, for the Crab can appear to be doing little while it is hard at work. The Sun tenses up to erratic Uranus, heightening our anticipation or stirring up a bit of nervous anxiety. But Mental Mercury's easygoing trine to diffusive Neptune softens the edginess so we can nurture our closest friends and family.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
You have been rather serious recently, and today with the Moon back in your sign, you are deeply in touch with your feelings. But your passions have cooled so you are more than willing to refrain from expressing your desires. Keep in mind that you may be harder on yourself than usual. Look at the facts, but save your critical judgments for another day.

From Astrocenter...

Today:
You may sense a feel of emotional safety, LINDSAY, and thus more able to comfortably express your ideas and emotions. A feeling like this hasn't occurred so profoundly in a while, so take advantage of it by saying all the things that you have wanted to say for a while. Because of the solid feeling backing your words, you will find that you can express yourself in a non-threatening way, and that people respond to you very positively.

This coming week:

Past and Present
This week, LINDSAY, you may be surprised when you see a recent photo of people you used to associate with. The passage of time might not be as real to you as it is to others, as your innate sensitive nature usually has a strong connection to the people and places that have affected you in the past. Venus, currently in your house of metaphysical ideas, squares Mars in Pisces on Monday and you might ask yourself a few philosophical questions about the nature of time itself, once you see how changed your former associates have become in the years since you first knew them. On Thursday, the Moon enters your communication zone and you might go through your address book and update it. That activity may inspire you to get in touch with many of your companions, past and present, to catch up on old times. You should get a lot of enjoyment from touching base with associates you have not spoken to in a while. On Saturday, Mars conjuncts Uranus in your travel sector and you might get an unexpected invitation to visit a family member. Think about saying yes, since a change of scenery might be good for your emotional equilibrium.

hehe...

My horoscope for tomorrow (today, I suppose):

A "windfall" of a small sum of extra money could come your way today, LINDSAY, and you might decide to blow it on an evening out. A concert, play or movie, in the company of friends, might seem especially appealing at this time. You might also browse in a bookstore and pick up something that interests you. Whatever you decide to do is likely to bring interesting and useful information your way. Enjoy your day!

How appropriate! I get my first salary paycheck tomorrow, and I will be cashing my last paycheck from Francois' (that I thought I cashed, but just found this past week), and I just got five $1 bills from the Nielson ratings people to keep a TV diary for the next week (what a waste for them--they sent us something a few weeks ago, too, but I ignored it since we watch absolutely ZERO television. DVDs don't exactly count, and we hardly ever rent them, anyway). I should just write in that we don't have any TVs in our apartment...lol

Also, I should mention that I found it highly amusing/oddly coincidental that Dana posted about being tapped for the Nielson ratings stuff roughly a week before we received our first correspondence from them.

I'm so tired...I really need to go to bed. I've been wanting to write an in-depth entry about training, but time just isn't permitting right now. I'm trying! Probably either tomorrow or Friday/Satureday, since those are my days off this week. Tomorrow I have lots of errands to run, though.

Goodnight...

Because I'm just that loopy and crazy tonight I did something I haven't done since high school. I pulled out the mic and recorded myself singing on the silly little wav recorder on the computer. Those of you who haven't been subjected to it before have the chance to hear it or ignore it as you will. Since I currently am addicted to the song in the video I just posted, it's that. I'm a bit congested, too, so I apologize in advance.

Just because.

I've missed singing so much, and I've recently been doing more of it again. Once I'm settled a bit somewhere I plan on picking up voice lessons again (not that I've had many to speak of in the past), and dance again. I'm not sure which form of dance I want to pick up, but I just feel so. good. when I'm taking dance. It does far more for me than working out or yoga, and I'm far more passionate about it, given that it's a form of expression and something I did for nine years.

My astrocenter.com weekly horoscope...

Work and health issues will need your attention this week, LINDSAY. You seem to be gearing up for a major push, which may mean taking decisive action in the direction of your dreams. Mars has been moving through Sagittarius for some weeks now, which has coincided with a new found determination to step out of your comfort zone and be bold. Any health problems which may have come to the surface need your attention, so get down to the doctors for a checkup. You may be eager to get into shape and have devised a regime that you are tackling very enthusiastically. But it is vital that you pace yourself. You will also want to improve your financial situation and may feel moved to ask for a raise on Monday, when Mars trines Saturn. It is possible that a new project or job will come your way, bringing in a steady income. Jupiter in your work and health zone means more luck if you are willing to put some hard work in to ensure success. Friday is great for discussions with bank managers or financial advisors. Saturday is very intense, but don't use a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Use your brains instead!

Also, this icon cracks me up. Too bad if you've all already seen it, but I just discovered it.

Terribly introspective today, and wanting to spend the entirety of it reading and writing, and not wanting to go to work at all. Unfortunately, I have to work both places today. Damn. I actually did well downtown last night, though. I'm not used to making that much on a weeknight anywhere I've worked (save CiP the first couple of months we were open, and weekday volumes at the Brewery). I miss the Brewery. I look back and realize just how much money I made there--somewhere roundabout $400+ a week (though I did work ~42-45 hours a week there, and it was during the summer tourist season). I went back to school that year with an actual bank account...over $800 saved up (and I bought a LOT of stuff that summer--a three-in-one printer, a digital camera, clothes, ridiculous amounts of food from work and fast food joints, etc.). They closed for a couple of months recently. I imagine they're going through a shifting. Probably a new menu and some remodelling. I hope it picks back up for them once they reopen because it's really a fantastic restaurant with some fantastic microbrews. Dan and I were extremely depressed when we visited my parents when I picked my new car up and it was closed. I was very happy to hear it was only temporary.

Well, off I go to get ready for work now. Bah.

I went into work earlier this morning with Beth to help get the place cleaned up before the big people come in tomorrow and Friday. Tomorrow one of the heads of our concept is going to be there with the new Director of Operations, and then Friday the president of Outback will be there. Both of us also work this evening and were repaid with the best smoking and non-smoking sections in addition to getting paid for doing the cleaning itself. I also sent the word out to one of our managers about wanting to do travelling training. He was walking me out to my car last night (because we can't leave the restaurant at night by ourselves--we have to walk out with somebody, and since I'm usually one of the last servers gone a manager usually ends up walking me out) and was telling me what a great job he thinks I do for them and how much he appreciates that and asked me why I wasn't a trainer yet. I replied, "I don't know" and he asked me if I wanted to. I said I'd love to, and that I'd really love to do the travelling training. He said he'd definitely put in the word for me. *squeals*

Along the lines of travelling...my bank account is starting to build again, which is nice. I've never had over $1000 in there at one time of my own doing (and even then I've never had even up to $1500), so I've set a prize for myself as soon as it gets up there--a goal reward, basically. Once I accumulate $1500 in it I'm going to finally get my passport. This is something I've been telling myself I'd do for a long time, and I really do want to start seriously travelling one of these days and I want to finally break that first (and rather costly) barrier. This is my vow to myself, really, that I'm actually going to do it this time. And I'm saying it in front of all of you as an added push to actually do it instead of the "Oh...but you could use the money for this other thing that you need right this moment!" that I tend to do.

In other news, the DSL stuff came, but they couldn't deliver it, so it's sitting at the UPS office at the moment. I'll be picking it up tomorrow and Dan and I will probably be setting it up tomorrow at some point :-D

Wow. 16649 steps tonight. Yes, you're going to have to deal with this every night I work until the novelty of doing it wears off.

My throat really really really hurts and nothing is helping it. This sucks.

Stevie Nicks's father passed away a couple of days ago.

I am ready to strangle some people I work with. I was FoH (Front of House) closer tonight, which means I check a designated area of seats. I make sure the six-packs are refilled and done correctly (Heinz 57, salt, kethcup, tobasco sauce, pepper and mustard), that people have swept their section and that their tables look presentable and ready for the next day. We have a FoH closer (who is responsible for checking out most of the non-smoking sections), a bar closer (who is responsible for checking out the bar area sections), and a patio closer (responsible for checking out the people who worked on the patio, obviously). Tonight I signed out about six people. Three of those people were from other sections. I went to check out my area before the manager did an inspect of it and realised that I had checked out all of about three people of my own area and that someone else had done the rest--badly. Very badly. I had to sweep almost the entire non-smoking area (save those I had checked out myself) and fix about three incorrect six-packs. Also, I saw my initials on the board for a couple of people who I definitely did NOT check out or sign for who were not in my area and not one of the other three I checked out. So, A) I'm infuriated with whomever checked the people of my section out and didn't actually make sure things were done properly, and B) infuriated with the people who decided it would be fun to forge my initials next to their names so that they could leave. Just because you're angry that you got a bad section and that it was a section with only two tables does NOT mean you can slack on your closing sidework, Taylor (not like she's actually on here and will read this), and it DEFINITELY does not mean you can forge my initials so you don't have to do it...when I wasn't even closer for your section.

Stupid people.

For those of you who hadn't heard yet, work was pretty good...aside from when I lost a credit card slip that had an over seven-dollar tip on a $27 bill. I had much self-hate for myself last night over that one (I'm pretty positive I accidentally tossed it before I cashed the table out). Tonight I close, and we should have our liquor license. Yay! Scary.

They had fresh ears of corn on sale at Meijer--14 for $2. I love summer so much. I could completely make an entire meal out of fresh ears of corn only.

*runs off to make a veggie BLT and fresh corn on the cob*

Now I just need to figure out which CD to best compliment this wonderful mix of good weather, yummy food and happy Lindsay...I do believe Heather Nova...probably South :-D

Edit: Okay, so it ended up being Fleetwood Mac's "Say You Will"...today's Stevie's 57th birthday! I hope I look so good when I'm 57...lol: [livejournal.com profile] enchantedstevie

That's it...going to Qdoba, getting dinner, SITTING OUTSIDE AND READING A BOOK!

I'm pleased with that plan. Though sleeping sounds nice, too...especially since tomorrow is a double, and last night was later than expected...

So how many of us with gmail end up at gamil.com at least once a week?

*raises hand*

In other randomness...apparently tonight is Reese Witherspoon night. I started out with Election (which I hadn't seen in ages, and it makes good background noise for cleaning), and I just put Cruel Intentions in (for the same reasons)...

...and I still haven't completely watched/returned Vanity Fair. It was due Monday :-P

So, apparently the Outback Corp. is having its complete and total way with Kalamazoo (and so far is being hugely successful in the endeavour...Carrabba's and Outback are always packed). Carrabba's recently opened here, and now the Jimmy Buffet theme chain is soon to open--both Outback corp. restaurants.

If one works at any Outback corp. restaurant, though, it means 50% off at ANY Outback corp. restaurant. Awesome. It actually sounds pretty cool--live music seven days a week including karaoke on Mondays and Open Mic on Wednesdays.

Now I need to get ready for my long day at work :-)
