Last night ended up being pretty nice. Konny (her and her husband Jon are in the apartment next to us, and we've all become acquaintance-y: dirty and amusing little secret somehow discovered our first lunch together...between the four of us, we own four copies of Sarah Brightman's Eden...rofl Keep in mind that she's in advertising and her husband is in automotive engineering at Western) was going out to B&N to sit and read for a bit, and ended up inviting me with. She's been getting really bored because she worked for the Western Herald's advertising staff, but somebody on staff has been pissing off a lot of the ad execs and flat-out stealing accounts and so people are quitting over it, and Jon has been really busy with class and some engineering society he joined with very little time for her. She flipped through magazines while I read more OR, and then we ended up at Food Dance Cafe for dinner. I had an absolutely amazing salad and an okay glass of wine (it was extremely bland next to the salad, though) and we talked about a ridiculous amount of things. We talked about food and people who go on ridiculous diets where they eat things from Weight Watchers, etc., with no taste in them rather than doing things like watching portions and moving around every so often, and after three months of acquaintancy talk religion ended up coming up (after her seeing what was left on my plate and telling me about how it reminds her of how her dad--they're Cambodian--leaves a roughly spoonful-sized amount of everything on his plate for the ancestors). We ended up having a really nice discussion on various religious/spiritual things. I'd say it amazes me how much more open-minded people are these days, but then she was telling me about her Cambodian grandfather who was a healer in his village, and I'm instead amazed at how I just am lucky enough to end up with such open-minded and worldly people coming through my life.

I've had a lot of trouble with friends in my life, but then I've been blessed with people like all of you, and the occasional new one, and I know just how lucky I've really been.

Awww! *hugs* I'm glad to hear you're making new friends while you're so sadly separated from me. ;)
