-Eat something reasonable, given that all I ate yesterday were tastes of dishes from the new dinner menu where Dan works, hot chocolate, a gin and tonic, and most of a half-pound of smoked brie and garlic and sesame crackers, and water. By bedtime I was craving veggies, obviously, but the roads are terrible and I didn't want to leave the apartment again.
-Get oil changed in car. (working on it...somebody called in and they were running behind, so I had to make an appointment for later)
-Deposit my half of rent check into Dan's account since he already sent it in and I keep forgetting to go do that. (will do that on way to oil change)
-Get roll of quarters while at bank for laundry. (ditto)
-Pick up some bathroom essentials (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste) since we're running low.
-Do some laundry.

Do this week at some point:
-Pay bills.

Also, last night we went to Tiffany's (hence my picking up a new gin, though I still have Hendrick's left...I'd like to build up my personal collection since so few places serve the ones I drink, and the brie and crackers) and they happened to have a "Kalamazoo Bride" magazine. I picked it up hoping to find more possibilities for ceremony and reception venues downtownish. At this point it's getting extremely frustrating and I nearly want to throw my hands up in the air and shout "Okay! Fine! I'll cave and be typical and we'll change it to Midsummer and have an outdoor ceremony!" (and neither of us particularly want an outdoor ceremony because it's so iffy with weather) because apparently the only places to have a downtownish ceremony with more than 50 people is to have it outdoors at one of the B&Bs in the area. We both have Catholic families, so even with only grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, we're looking at 30 alone in my family, and more in his. Of course, we also have a handful of friends each that we'd like to invite, and given I'm still working where I am I just have to invite my boss and his wife because he's like a second father to me. And did I mention that even though I'm not the oldest (on my dad's side...I'm the oldest on my mom's side) I'm the first grandchild getting married? This is going to end up a big deal :-P

Anyway, what I meant to say before I vented all of that is that I was flipping through it and we were making fun of things like the beautiful cake picture on a Radisson ad ("Only $8,000!"--no, not really ;-), and "Hey! How about the Wesleyan Church--'Couples must meet with Pastor Davis for 2 to 5 pre-marriage sessions and be approved by the pastor.'" "I'll just keep calling him 'Father'..." and the elegant-looking bridal boutique ad that advertises itself as "next to Sam's Club."), and we got to the "Lists" in the back. He, in a moment of seriousness, asked if we could keep it for reference, and I told him I'd seen a million others like it online, but sure. I'm also against the idea of seating charts for the reception, but he thinks it would be amusing, so I told him to go for it if he's so inspired. There's also a "Music Planner" with a list of all the "traditional" places for songs, and I nearly choked on my water when there was a space for a "Cutting the Cake" song.

Also, did I mention how absurd costs like photography run? We'd already decided before seeing these prices that we'd rather go with a young photographer--likely a student at one of the local colleges. We're more interested in artsy and unique than we are traditional. I know too many people on my f'list and such that have a hard time getting pieces for their portfolios because crazy women are obsessed with "OMG traditional and perfect!" and are less likely to give an up-and-coming interested young photographer a chance.

Also, Dan's good friend (who will likely be his witness--did I mention our wedding party will likely consist of only ourselves and our witnesses?) wants to do the flowers. She used to work at a flower shop in Holly and said she could get the flowers at cost.

So...I still never got to where I meant to go with the above. Anyway, still no luck on a unique downtown venue that will hold roughly 100 for the ceremony itself, and certainly no luck on a reception site that would let us decide our own catering and let us stock/run our own open bar. Bah.

Frankly I don't think there is anything wrong with a dinner of brie and gin and tonic. :)

*laughs* Absolutely nothing wrong, but I hadn't eaten much of anything else yesterday, so my poor stomach was paying for all the junk in it...lol

And have you tried Q gin at all? Five times distilled, infused with lavender and lotus leaves. It's in my top three: 1. Hendricks, 2. Quintessential, 3. Magellan.

No I haven't ... I'm a big Bombay Sapphire fan, in fact haven't had much other gin besides that. But lavender and lotus leaves sound divine!

Sapphire was what I drank for a while, but then I got into the lighter and more subtle tasting ones. You'd probably really like Magellan if you like Sapphire.

At my big sister's first wedding, they played the theme from "Mission Impossible" while they were doing cake pictures. It was pretty funny. The wedding party entered the reception hall to the theme from "Shaft".

I almost want a cake because they're pretty. Dan doesn't really want a cake. He jokes that he wants a pie.

You could do a cake shaped card box or a cup-pie/cupcake tree. It'd actually be kinda funny to do the traditional thing of feeding each other a bite with a cup-pie, could get messy. ;)

One of my labmates' wives does cookies. She is amazing at cookies. She does weddings-- she asks for swatches of the bridesmaids' dress fabric and matches the frosting. There's a place in Oregon than does donut cake things, because it is a donut shop. I have seen sheet cakes and cakes like the Eiffel Tower.
Do what you want (I suspect this will not be a challenge). Enjoy the cake if you have it.
