Oct. 20th, 2006 11:27 amSo, a couple weeks ago somebody posted a link about teleportation advances. Last night somebody on a Harry Potter community posted about "invisibility cloak" advancements. I feel like I'm living in the future! ;-)
Scientists teleport two different objects
Beaming people in "Star Trek" fashion is still in the realms of science fiction, but physicists in Denmark have teleported information from light to matter bringing quantum communication and computing closer to reality.
Until now scientists have teleported similar objects such as light or single atoms over short distances from one spot to another in a split second.
But Professor Eugene Polzik and his team at the Niels Bohr Institute at Copenhagen University in Denmark have made a breakthrough by using both light and matter.

Working invisibility cloak created at last
An invisibility cloak that works in the microwave region of the
electromagnetic spectrum has been unveiled in the US. While not quite as
effective as Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, the device is the first
practical version of a theoretical set-up first suggested by physicists
earlier this year.
About the size of a movie reel canister, the cloak works by steering
microwave light around an object, making it appear to an observer as if
it were not there at all.
