littlelotte: (Winter)
I finished about a third of my first BYTE book last night ("Better Yourself Through Education"--a series created for OSI management to familiarize themselves with various things...topics include running meetings, legal issues important to restaurants (which is the one I have now), financial management, and other various business related things), and according to one of the other managers it's the longest/hardest to get through. I got through that much in two hours sitting at the coffee shop, so I'm not terribly concerned about finishing it before I'm out of MIT--in fact, at this rate I'll finish before I even start my training.

Dan's still asleep (he worked the overnight last night), and I'm kinda hungry, but he'll probably be up within an hour or two, so maybe I should just get a shower. We got about four inches of snow between 1am and 7am last night, and it still hasn't stopped. I haven't seen outside since 7:30 this morning, but I can see the snow still coming down outside my blinds. I told Dan when I picked him up that we should go for a walk and take some pictures of it today after he gets up. I really need to empty my camera...I really need to get my laptop fixed so I can use my own computer again, actually.

A "style" survey from [livejournal.com profile] entwined_in_ivy:

1. What *Era* Or *Period* Of Clothing Do You Feel Best Suits Your Looks And Personality? Why?
I really don't know. I've always loved the 50s poodle skirts and sweaters and always thought they'd look exceptionally good on me given my figure. I also really enjoy the lovely simplicity of the 40s-era dresses.

2. Have You Ever {Or Would You Ever} Worn Fantasy Or Historical Garb As Casual *Every Day* Clothing? Why Or Why Not?
No, but I wouldn't necessarily not, so long as it was tasteful and wasn't overbearing and matched what I felt like wearing. I more like modern fusion of historical pieces. For example, I have a lovely white collared top that is vaguely a corset top.

3. How Would You Describe Your Personal Style?
Classic. I'm big on tailored looks. I love pretty, but I also love professional. I love my collared and fitted more professional shirts, but I also adore my princess sleeves and frills--I especially love when the two can be combined. When I was in high school I told my mom that I wished I had the money to dress like Stevie Nicks. I love trailing sleeves and sheer overshirts and long, flowing skirts. Really, this post has pictures that rather perfectly describe what I love to wear most: http://littlelotte.livejournal.com/188166.html --minus the picture from work...lol

littlelotte: (LiT - Not hopeless)
I like doing these, so I googled for one that wasn't the one I just did (the only one that seems to be plastered among my flist)...

1.) where did you bring in 2006?
At home with Dan and a friend of his.

2.) what was your status by valentine's day?
Same as now.

3.) were you in school (anytime this year)?
Nope.

4.) how did you earn your keep?
In the restaurant industry. I kind of ran the gamut this year, though: server, headwait, admin/office manager, assistant manager, new restaurant trainer...the most exciting and major to date is to come shortly, though.

5.) did you ever have to go to the hospital?
Not that I recall...oh, wait! I went to visit my uncle while he was going through chemo, but that wasn't a "had to" situation.

6.) did you ever encounter the police?
hahahahahahahahahahaha...a few times, actually. 1) My car was stolen from work. 2) [livejournal.com profile] amneria's purse was stolen from my car. 3) I got pulled over Christmas Day night for going 80+ right past a police officer who just laughed at my horrified expression and response of "I was?!?!" to his "Most police officers would take something like going 80+ plus right past them personally" (because a) I hadn't even noticed I was going quite that fast and b) I didn't even see the officer) and let me go with a warning. Given that I've been driving for over three years and that was the first time I've been pulled over, I was pretty amused.

7.) where did you go on vacation?
What is this vacation you speak of? I visited home a couple of times for a day or two, does that count?

8.) what did you purchase that was over $500?
I didn't.

9.) did you know anybody who got married?
I know a couple of people who did.

10.) did you know anybody who passed away?
Not personally, thank goodness.

11.) have you run into anybody you graduated high school with?
I'm sure I did.

12.) did you move anywhere?
Nope. But I'm wondering where I'm about to...it's kinda scary to know you're going to, but you don't have any clue as to possible wheres.

13.) what sporting events did you go to?
I don't believe I did...

14.) what concerts did you go to?
Umm...good question. No major ones. Oh! Wait! Jimmy Buffett in September with a crew from CiP.

15.) are you registered to vote?
Of course.

17.) where do you live now?
Kalamazoo, Michigan. Yes, there really is a Kalamazoo. In fact, there are multiple Kalamazoos in the US. Just Googlemap it.

18.) describe your birthday?
Woke up, went to breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] surlenil, did a touch of shopping, went to St. Joseph for the Venetian Festival with my family, my cousin and [livejournal.com profile] surlenil, went to dinner with my family and Dan.

19.) what's the one thing you thought you would never do, but did in 2006?
I ran an office and became an assistant manager, and I took the leap to apply for an actual salaried management position.

20.) what is one thing you regretted this year?
Nothing.

21.) what's something you learned?
So many things. Life is rarely what you expect it will be, for one.
Life really is exactly what you make of it.
There's so much to learn, and so much that other people will teach you that you'd never have guessed otherwise.

22.) any new additions to your family?
Molly! I'm going to miss her terribly when I leave. I want Dan to keep her for now because I know how much happier he is with her around. She really helps him, and I know that I'm pretty okay on my own. I'll actually be able to afford to get back on my antidepressants for good, too, so that will help my own mood swings.

23.) What was your best month?
I'm not quite sure. There were a lot of great ones, but December's been exceptionally surreal. I enjoyed January for the OKC opening, this summer was rather nice, and December has been something else. Some of you will remember the handful of tarot readings I dd a few months ago. I saw a card that's been pretty major in the course of my life, and I hadn't really seen in a while in my readings, and I knew that major things were going to be happening within the coming year. Also, a "general" reading done by an oracle somebody on my flist created implied major work change, also (okay, not implied, outright said): What it said... )

24.) what, from pop culture, will you remember 2006?
I really don't keep up with a lot of pop culture, so I'm not quite sure. I almost consider politics to be pop culture anymore, so on that slant I'd say the election season. It was quite the interesting one.

25.) how would you rate this year with a scale from one (horrible) to ten (excellent)?
A few parts 3, a few parts 10. Overall it was pretty nice.

Apparently getting out of work early after having a nice little lunch rush puts me in a happy mood! I've gone and paid rent for June, and deposited today's tips, and now I get to sit back and relax! I think I'll read another month or so of archives, maybe go to Meijer and pick some things up that I need and do some cleaning. I still haven't mastered that whole "unpacking" part of things, but I hate trying to find places to put all my stuff :-P Some of it will probably end up re-packed and thrown into the closet once I do get around to doing that. Tonight feels like enchilada night, since I don't really have much else around.

For now, a meme from [livejournal.com profile] crysania4:
